Performances of 1. Blood and 4. Brain by the Baylor University Concert Choir and A Cappella Choir, Dr. Kristina MacMullen, conductor
Andrea Ramsey’s newest extended work for SATB chorus and flexible instrumentation was jointly commissioned by National Concerts, Temple University, and a consortium of choirs including: Baylor University, Bridgewater State University, Linfield University, the University of Oregon, Cantate Carlisle, E.O. Smith High School Choirs, Lake Nona High School, Rider University Chorale, the University of Michigan, and the choirs of the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Approximately 25 minutes in duration, the work explores the elemental wonders of the human body and the interconnected intricacies of our shared humanity. Each of the five unique movements (1. Blood, 2. Breath, 3. Biome, 4. Brain, and 5. Being) celebrate the wonders of a specific aspect of who we are and encourage us to honor the connections and community we share as human beings built of wonder, and worthy of dignity and decency.
