About the Score

"Tuul" by JC Maynard is an a cappella work for ten-part chorus to celebrate the wind — its mystery and its majesty. To convey this music, Maynard wrote lines of text in the Estonian language for its beautiful, poetic nature that so effortlessly lends itself to choral timbres. “Tuul” embodies both the dark/powerful and light/playful aspects of wind — a force nearly as old as our earth. The choir and soloist illustrate this multifaceted theme, ranging from reverent contemplation to dance-like jubilation. How we wish to sing and dance like the wind!
